Flushing Kit
Various Part Numbers - see below
In accordance with BS EN 806: Specifications for installations inside buildings conveying water for human consumption, Part 4 - Installation, supply pipework (to terminal fittings) should be flushed at full bore with wholesome water. This higher velocity Cleansing Flush is required to completely remove any debris, sediment and organic matter that may have entered, or accumulated within the water system during its construction or refurbishment.
Although the fine mesh strainer baskets on all Horne TMVs, showers and the Optitherm tap offer a degree of protection for the thermostatic mechanism, it cannot be guaranteed to prevent all ingress and damage by harmful debris.
This Required Accessory facilitates full compliance with BS EN 806 and our own commissioning instructions.
Enquire about this productThe Horne flushing kit enables simple and effective flushing following installation, and pre-commissioning a Horne TMV or shower. It is a required accessory that facilitates compliance with BS 806 and BS 8558. The flushing kit not only removes construction swarf, debris and particulate matter from the water system, thus protecting the precision valve components, it also allows for maintenance of a healthy water system, improved water quality and enhanced patient / user safety.
The flushing kit should also be used periodically to flush the supply pipe work at an elevated velocity (via the drain points upstream of the mixing or shower valve), which serves to shear excess biofilm and its resident pathogens from the internal pipe surfaces and remove it to drain, thus improving water quality and retarding a reservoir of potential infection.
Flushing adaptors are available for all options of HORNE 15, HORNE 20, Heatstat T2, HORNE 25 TMVs and the HORNE TSV1. The flushing adaptor enables the newly installed pipework to be flushed clean of any debris without passing the debris through the TMV and risking damage to the sealing faces.
The adjacent images and videos show how to fit and operate the Flushing Kit for pipe flushing purposes. It is essential to flush the pipework before any water is run through the mixing or shower valve.
DO NOT flush the pipework by removing the internals of the mixing valve and flushing water through the empty or dummy valve. The pressure drop across the valve and the downstream tap will prevent the water flow attaining maximum velocity and this will not be sufficient for effective cleaning of debris and biofilm from the pipework.

Water quality and safety can be further improved through local thermal disinfection, upstream of each outlet using the patented Horne In-line Thermal Disinfection Unit, ILTDU. Operate the ILTDU routinely to reset retrograde pathogens to safe levels for enhanced patient or service-user safety.
Optimise performance and maximise the lifespan of your Horne Optitherm thermostatic taps, showers and point-of-use mixing valves.
