Special tools are required to remove the Slide Valve Seal, which is held captive within a groove in the valve body. The sharp, right angled edge of the special tool is pressed gently into the side of the slide valve seal. A twisting motion will deform the slide valve seal and the sharp point can be used to trap the slide valve seal outside of its groove, making it accessible for pulling out.
Once removed, the slide valve seal should never be used again, a new one should always be fitted. Great care should also be taken to ensure that the soft brass body of the TMV is not scratched by the harder stainless steel tools.
This tool can be used to remove the slide valve seal of point of use TMVs and also the TSV1 thermostatic shower valve.
