The strainers are specifically designed to prevent debris entering the mixing valve where it can damage the internal components. If debris has built up in the strainers they can be cleaned easily under running water. After isolating the mixing valve from the water supplies, remove the strainer cap using a spanner and pull out the strainer basket. Rinse under running water then replace.
