Periodic water system flushing can help to remove accumulate debris and biofilm from the shower's supply pipework and thus improve water quality, reduce the incidence of contamination by micro-organisms and help prevent the spread of infection.
Remove the shower's bottom end cap and isolate the water supplies at the low level servicing valves. Remove the cold strainer cap and basket then insert the flushing adaptor and connect the hose. Reopen the cold water supply to allow a higher velocity flow of water to fall. The water may be discoloured due to the mechanical (shearing) removal of biofilm from the internal pipe surfaces. Allow the water to run clear and then isolate the cold water supply. Repeat this process to flush the hot water supply, taking care to avoid scalding.
