Design to stand the test of time

As the Sales Agent in Scotland for Horne Engineering, I had two reasons to celebrate recently, relating to both pleasure and work.

The first reason was the re-launch of my Jaguar MK2 and the second was the launch to market of the new Horne Duŝo Shower Column.

After 19 years of on/off restoration, my classic 1962 MK2 Jaguar, pictured above, is finally finished and it is now back on the road, 51 years after it left the production line at Jaguar's famous Browns Lane Factory in Coventry.

I have undertaken a full nut and bolt restoration, including a change from LHD to RHD (it is ex California, USA), engine rebuild, transmission, suspension, steering upgrade, brakes upgrade, electrics upgrade, interior, exterior, lighting, wheels and tyres.

People have asked me what I like most about the finished product.  My answer is very simple – the fact that I used quality components and materials in order to achieve the best result.

In a way my Jaguar restoration project is like any other project. You will only get out of it what you put in, in terms of both quality of materials and quality of workmanship.

I really don’t want to go back to my Jaguar in a couple of years and re-do what I have already done. It has taken me a long time, a lot of effort and a lot of money to get my car where it is now.  I am confident that it is now 100% fit for purpose and capable of use in modern traffic and road conditions.  If I had used the cheaper options available to me during the rebuild that would certainly not be the case. The car would have fallen short of my expectations and well below what I see in front of me today.

Do the job right first time and to the best of your ability with the best quality products.  A case in point is the recently launched-to-market Horne Duŝo Shower Column.  Like the Jaguar MK2, the Duso is an example of bold, striking design, beautifully executed to offer excellent performance over a lengthy life-time.  If there is anything that has been designed and built as fit-for-purpose then this is it. Horne responded to what the market wanted and this has been delivered - not only in terms of its functionality, but also in its style and robustness.

Quality will withstand the test of time. Horne Engineering has been here since 1909 – 104 years and twice as long as my MK2 Jaguar!
