As patients’ needs evolve, it may be necessary to make some adaption to fixtures and fittings in the built environment to help them to maintain their independence, dignity and feelings of well-being.
A simple adaption that can be made to our standard TSV1 shower panel is the changing of the control knobs for levers.
The changeover can be done relatively simply and quickly as the video below shows.
The lever controls are specifically moulded to aid grip, yet rotate at extremely low torque such that operation can still be achieved easily with a clenched fist or by users with limited hand mobility. The levers can be differentiated from each other by their shape, markings and mode of operation. The on-off control is a single lever that rotates through a quarter turn and this is marked with black water droplets. The temperature control is a double lever, marked in red and blue and showing the direction of temperature adjustment. It operates through 360 degree rotation.
Horne shower panels featuring specialised lever controls are increasingly being selected for NHS and private care homes for elderly and people living with dementia.
