Scalding Tot Bath Warning
The Mirror, Monday 27 March 2006.

TWENTY children every year die from scalding injuries because parents do not check if the bath water is too hot, a report will warn this week.

The Hot Water Burns Like Fire survey reveals 570 people a year are scalded by bath water - three quarters of them children.

The campaign wants building regulations changed to force all new baths and taps to have temperature regulators.

This law has been passed in Scotland but not England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Labour MP for Wake-field Mary Creagh said: 'Scalding bath water is a hidden tragedy for hundreds of families. A moment's carelessness can lead to terrible injuries and a lifetime of surgery.'

The campaign is backed by actress Amanda Redman, who was scalded as a child, and the Child Accident Prevention Trust.

The report will be delivered to Government ministers on Wednesday.
