Prescott
to cap heat of our water
Daily Express, Monday 16 May 2005
A Government
plan to regulate bath water has been condemned as 'legislation gone
mad'.
New
regulations will require devices to limit the temperature of water
from bath-taps being fitted in all new homes. The Government claims
the law, due next year, is 'essential' to prevent scalding.
Phil
Hope, former minister in charge of building regulations said: 'Most
accidents occur with the young, elderly or infirm getting or falling
into baths'.
The
plans have brought widespread criticism. Shadow minister Robert
Syms, said: 'This is more nanny state interference from john prescott's
department'.
Plumber
Richard Nissen added: 'This is legislation gone mad. This is going
to mean a lot of angry customers because of the cost of installing
these valves'.
However,
Howard Porter, director of the Thermostatic Mixing Valve Manufacturing
Association, said: 'Around 20 children each year die from scalding.
Using a mixing valve will eliminate that'. |
