The award winning Optitherm thermostatic tap - designed to be conducive to best hand washing practices and improved infection control - click to view the animated tourSince 1909, Horne Engineering Ltd has been at the forefront of the design, development and manufacture of thermostatic valves for mixing and temperature control applications. Our broad range of thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) is widely used to control water temperatures to safe and comfortable levels in domestic hot water services (DHWS) both at point of use (basin, bath, shower and bidet) and in the plant room.

We primarily service the UK Healthcare market, where high quality, performance and excellent value for money are essential pre-requisites. The HORNE 15, HORNE 20 TMVs and our TSV1 surface mounted shower panels all exceed the standards of the TMV3 scheme. Our latest development, the OPTITHERM, a highly innovative thermostatic medical tap has won a top award at the 2008 Building Better Healthcare Awards within the category of Best Interiors Product. View our narrated and animated (photo-realistic render) product tour at Low speed ¦ High speed (requires Flash Player 8 or above).

The Scottish Building Standards changed on May 1st 2006: in Scotland, in all new build and refurbishment private and public properties, a Type 2 (TMV2 Scheme approved) thermostatic mixing valve must be fitted to the bath hot-water outlet to prevent the incidence of scalding injury. We have recently added a TMV2 Scheme approved valve - the HEATSTAT T2 that specifically addresses the needs and requirements of this new market. Further information on the TMV2 thermostatic mixing valve market development can be found in the Market News section of this website.

We also design and manufacture larger mixing valves from 28mm to 50mm for use in group mixing applications (e.g. a group of showers or basins) and for DHWS circulation in hospitals, schools, leisure facilities, prisons and other buildings.

We also design and manufacture a variety of steam products for specialist process applications. Please see the HORNE STEAM WEBSITE for information on these products.
